Hong Kong has evolved from a small fishing village into an entrepot, and
was later developed into a centre for manufacturing industries. During the
past 20 years, Hong Kong has rapidly developed into an international
financial and trading centre.
About 24% of the total land area in the territory
is urbanised. About 40% of the land area is taken up by Country Parks.
It is estimated that Hong Kong's population will increase
to around 8.4 million by 2030. We will only need to develop an additional
2% of our land resources for satisfying people's ever-increasing demands.
